Finnskogen - The Finn-Forests
Finnskogen is a belt of continous forest among the Norwegain-Swedish boarder, with a lot of lakes, streams and rivers. The area is at part of the county “Innlandet” at Norwegian side, and the county “Värmland” at Swedish side. The nature is rich, suitable for a versatile outdoor life.
Back in the early 1600, the Forest-Finns entered the Norwegian side of the boarder, after their long travel from the east. The Forest-Finns brought their culture, among others their special architectural style, their crafts and their special way of farming (“Svedjebruk”); burning down the forest, then sawing rye in the ashes. There are still traces from this exciting and mysterious heritage, found in the Finn-Forests. Forest-Finns are today one of five defined minorities of Norway.
